A
healing garden was constructed at the Cumberland Regional
Health Care Centre at the bequest of the late Holly L.
Spicer. It is located on the main hospital grounds between
the intensive care and palliative care units.
This very special project is a result of a bequest from the
Estate of the late Holly L. Spicer of Spencer's Island. A
healing garden is a place for quiet reflection, sensory awakening
and provides a very unique and uplifting experience for patients,
staff and visitors. The Garden encompasses a designed walkabout
area with two fountains, a scent garden, shaded seating area,
and several different varieties of plants selected for their
pollen less attributes.
Plants included in the garden include the following:
Cranes Bill, Japanese Yew, hydrangeas, hostas, daylilies,
Virginia creeper, burning bush, clematis, Sarcoxie, amur
maple, Hansa rose, Pierette pavement rose, honeysuckle, feather
reed grass & Russian sage, magnolia stellata, catmint,
creeping thyme, mock orange, mugo pine, flowering dogwood,
veronica, oak, and a flowering crab. Seasonal flowers also
include daffodils and crocuses.
The "Holly Spicer Healing Garden" will be a lasting
memorial to her generosity and will be a source of comfort,
therapy and serenity to all who will use it.
