SIDHU, CRISTINA C.

Cristina is originally from New Jersey. Having inherited natural ability from her birthparents, who are both working artists, she was drawing constantly from the time she could hold a crayon.

She received numerous prizes and awards during her grade school years for art contests locally and state-wide. After graduating high school with high honours and awards for her artistic contributions to the school, she attended Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, a prestigious women’s college known for their fine arts program and museum. Cristina studied painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture and graphic arts as well as the history of art. She spent her Junior Year studying at the Sir John Cass School of Art in London, England. She received her BFA with honours from Smith in 1991 with a major in Studio Art. After living in Springfield, Massachusetts, she moved to Toronto in 1993 with her husband and established her career as a Graphic Artist focusing on print design and corporate identity.

In 1996 she established Dancing Horse Design with a view to offering both graphic design and fine art services. She designed logos that reflected her artistic style, most notably Georgian Downs (www.georgiandowns.com). In 2005 she was instructed by noted pastel artist Dave Beckett in mastering the medium of Soft Pastel. Cristina had found her medium of trade and began to work exclusively in Soft Pastel. In 2006 she moved to the Amherst area where she, having been incredibly inspired by the natural beauty of the Maritimes, has been painting and exhibiting regularly ever since. Her works have been accepted and shown at Local, National and Internationally Juried Exhibits. She is a member of Visual Arts Nova Scotia (VANS), the Sackville Art Association (SAA), the Amherst Arts Council Association (AACA), the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club of NYC, and the Pastel Artists Canada (PAC).
