Hospital
Foundation Firmly Planted
Highland View Regional Hospital established a fundraising foundation last Fall
which promises to enhance the hospital's ability to provide a high standard of
care to the citizens of Cumberland County.
Incorporated separately from the hospital, the Highland View Regional Hospital
Foundation is governed by a 15-member Board of Directors. Collectively, these
volunteers act as a fundraising agent for the hospital, through which all donations
and bequests flow.
"As a regional hospital, our primary goal is to provide a high standard
of care to the residents of this area, "says HVRH Board of Trustees Chairman
Blake Daley. "Recognizing the positive impact a Foundation has on the achievement
of this goal, we are very excited to see one established at Highland View"
Over the past several years, many hospitals have turned toward Foundations as
a means of securing their financial futures. In fact, HVRH is the last regional
hospital in the province to establish such an organization. Mr. Daley says that,
although the concept of a foundation has been discussed in the past, it was not
until last October that one was actually formed.
The HVRH Foundation's current Board of Directors is comprised of Roger Bacon,
Linda Barteaux, Donald Carr, Blake Daley, Lynn Harrison, Pam Harrison, Morris
Haugg, Bill Hopper, Mary Ann Landry, Tony Lawrence, Cathy Pipe, Stu Pipe, Marg
Smith, Roger Taylor and David Turner.
This group has been meeting regularly over the past five months to discuss various
methods and aspects of fundraising and to learn more about how other Foundations
in the Province assist their hospitals.
At Highland View, all Foundation funds will be dispersed at the request of the
hospital's board of Trustees, based on the needs of the hospital. For example,
if a piece of equipment were to malfunction and the provincial government was
unable, or unwilling, to provide funds to replace it, the Board of Trustees might
ask the Foundation for financial assistance.
For decades, HVRH has experienced the benefits of fundraising through the efforts
of the Hospital Auxiliary. In fact, the dedication of this group has proven itself
to be invaluable as the organization has assisted with several major purchases
that have had a direct effect on the hospital's ability to provide a high standard
of care. During the past two years alone, the Auxiliary has donated nearly $100,000
to Highland View.
The fundraising efforts of the HVRH Foundation will compliment those of the Auxiliary,
and further assist the hospital as it faces the financial challenges of today
and tomorrow. back to the top of the page > |
