Message
from the Chair
Highland
View Regional Hospital Foundation held its' Annual General Meeting on June 20,
2000. The Board of Directors said a fond farewell and heartfelt "thank you" to
Stu Pipe for his outstanding contributions as
Chair of the Above & Beyond Campaign. We also extended a heartfelt
"thank you" to outgoing Chairman of
the Foundation
Board, Blake Daley. Through their wisdom, hard work, and dedication
to health care, our Foundation has had a successful transition from
the Above & Beyond Campaign to an annual campaign to raise funds
for equipment.
I am proud to be the new Chair of the community Foundation. I look forward to
the challenges of the coming year. I would like to express the Foundation's sincere
thanks to all the people who have dedicated their time and efforts to help us
raise funds over the years. I would like to thank our donors, whose contributions
have mead our endeavours so successful. Thank you.

Branch #10, Royal Canadian Legion. Top Honor, Light The
Way 1999 |
The tree
lighting ceremony for the 1999 Light the Way campaign was again a
special evening for citizens of Cumberland County. This 2nd annual
fundraising event for HVRH Foundation took place on December 6 and
was a huge success in raising funds and providing a memorable occasion
for all those who attended. ( An estimated 300 spectators)
The largest single donation made to the campaign by an individual or group has
the star at the top of the tree names in their honor. This honor was awarded
to the Amherst Branch #10 of the Royal Canadian Legion for the second year in
a row. Thank you Amherst Branch!
With almost $30,000 raised from the 1999 event, the Foundation was able to purchase
a videogastroscope, a fibre-optic scope that doctors use to get a direct visualization
of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. There was a definite need at the hospital
of a new scope, as the old one was aging quickly.

Chairman's Gala
An Evening from the Heart
The 2nd annual Chairman's Gala, held April 28, 2000 at the Wandlyn Inn, was true
to its theme An evening from the Heart. The Gala, along with Light The Way and
the Highland Classic Golf Tournament, is a fundraising event held to benefit
the equipment needs of Highland view Regional Hospital and its future.
The evening hosted cocktails, a delicious dinner, an artisan's auction, dancing,
a casino, and fabulous entertainment by the FunTones.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Distinguished Service
Award, an award established by the Foundation, which is presented each year at
the Gala. The award is presented to an individual or group to recognize their
outstanding contributions to the foundation and/or the health care community.
This year's honouree was Jean Miller of RR#3, Amherst. Ms. Miller has donated
so much of her time to so many organizations that it made it easy to have her
as the prime candidate for the award this year. Last year's award went to the
Honorable Roger S. Bacon.
The Foundation was pleased to raise almost $6,500, while continuing to fulfill
their mission to enhance the Hospital's ability to provide a high standard of
healthcare to all residents of Cumberland County.
