Search for alternate dollars finds $30,000 Additional Monies secured for bursary program

AMHERST, NS (April 25, 2010) – The Cumberland Health Care Foundation is very pleased to announce that in addition to the approximate $27,000 having been raised at it’s annual fundraising dinner on Saturday April 24th, that they were the appreciative 2009 recipients of more than $30,000 in grants from other external Foundations in support of the Cumberland Health Care Bursary Program.

“The additional monies raised will help fund more academic years of study for County healthcare students,” said David Wood, Chair of the Cumberland Health Care Foundation, “as the program continues to grow and show results, we are able to gain momentum in finding other resources to help expand it.”

Designed to help fight shortages of skilled medical professionals in Cumberland County, the bursary program helps students financially achieve their dreams of a career in health care.   To date 23 students have been accepted into the program of which 12 are now employed in the Cumberland Health Authority district.  An additional four bursary students will be completing their studies and returning to work in Cumberland this year.

“We regularly seek out other external Foundations and corporations which may be able to help us,” continued Wood, “it involves a fair amount of research and many applications being made which may or may not pan out.  However we firmly believe that every new dollar found can make a difference, so we remain committed to finding those dollars.  The 2009 year was a good year for us in making the right connections.”
