Local retired & current officers supporting ICU needs

R.C.M.P. Veterans - Cumberland Charities Drive 2010

Amherst, NS (December 3rd, 2009) –  Over the past two years the RCMP Veterans Association has carried out fund raising campaigns in support of various charities across the province of Nova Scotia.   This year, RCMP Veterans in Cumberland County are joining their provincial association, the Nova Scotia RCMP Veteran’s Association, to raise funds for a charity which would benefit this County’s residents.

“We have elected to support the Cumberland Health Care Foundation in its efforts to raise funds for three Intensive Care Unit beds and a portable ventilator,” said RCMP Veterans representative in Cumberland, Bob Spence, “the monies raised from ticket sales locally will stay in the County and go towards items that could be potentially utilized by any of our County residents.”

A Provincial RCMP Veterans Association booth will be on display at the Amherst Center Mall from December 7th to December 12th and again on December 21st and December 22nd where tickets can be purchased on a provincial raffle.    Prizes include such items as:

 (1) a week vacation for two to Paris ,France
(2) an ultimate Cabot trail resort & golf tour for two
(3) a week end getaway to White Point Beach
(4) dinner theatre tickets
(5) groceries from Sobeys or Super Store .

The Cumberland Health Care Foundation is currently raising monies for the purchase of medical equipment such as the new ICU beds and the portable ventilator through its annual Light the Way campaign.   “We’re pleased and honored that this group of retired RCMP officers and also current RCMP officers are helping out with funding this type of equipment,” said Joe Gauthier, Managing Director of the Cumberland Health Care Foundation, “it’s another fine example of how they continue to support and take care of our communities.”

The Cumberland Health Care Foundation is a registered Canadian not-for-profit charity dedicated to enhancing the provision of a high standard of health care within Cumberland County by raising funds and supporting new and improved services, programs, equipment and facilities.
