Foundation recognizes long-time supporter Helped to raise more than $10 Million for healthcare locally
AMHERST, NS (April 25th, 2009) – At the 11th Annual Cumberland Health Care Foundation dinner, Amherstonian Phyllis Cameron was awarded the 2009 Distinguished Service Award for Healthcare Philanthropy in Northern Nova Scotia.
Cameron served as Chair of the Cumberland Health Care Foundation for a decade during which time she was involved with raising more than $10 million dollars for healthcare services provided through the regional hospital including both capital campaigns - Above & Beyond & Growing Care. The former Director of the Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority (APSEA), she is also a former president of the Amherst Rotary Club, a member and volunteer of the Cumberland Health Care Auxiliary, and volunteers her energies with additional groups & organizations. In spite of her busy schedule she has maintained her well known creative talents with crafts and especially her skills as a quilter.

The award is presented annually by the Foundation to an individual, group, or company from Cumberland County who has contributed continuously to the enhancement of improved healthcare and medical services for all residents.
