AMHERST, NS (September 22, 2008) – This year’s “Light the Way!” received a $1500 boost from the work of the local “Just Us” group. The group raised the donation for this year’s “Light the Way!” by selling raffle tickets on a basket of donated items, community fairs and other activities during the year.
“Just Us” was organized in 1993 with 14 members with a purpose to bring women of the area together for fellowship, education and service. From 1994, until the new regional hospital was completed, the group provided small comforts such as men’s electric razors, hair dryers, curling irons, adult bibs, bed jackets, layettes, baby blankets, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, combs and finger puppets. Just Us have also support the Highland Fling fo the Cumberland Health Care Auxiliary.
Each year, the Cumberland Health Care Foundation’s “Light the Way!” campaign seeks to raise funds for new or replacement hospital equipment. This year, the goal is to raise $55,000 to provide for three (3) new electrocardiogram machines (ECGs) at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
This year’s “Light the Way!” event will be held on the evening of Wednesday, December 3rd starting at 5:30 with the lighting occurring at approximately 6pm. “Many community groups and organizations help in ways that many people aren’t aware of, “ said Managing Director Joe Gauthier, “they’re not in it for the glory, they do it because they truly care about what goes on in their community and the people who live there. Their commitment to healthcare is truly appreciated.”
The Cumberland Health Care Foundation is a registered Canadian not-for-profit charity dedicated to enhancing the provision of a high standard of health care within Cumberland County by raising funds and supporting new and improved services, programs, equipment and facilities.
