AMHERST, NS (September 22, 2008) – It may not have been Christmas carols being heard at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #10 of Amherst on Sunday September 14th, but the mix of blue grass, rock, country, and gospel certainly put people in the mood for a good time while benefiting local healthcare. Their goal of raising funds for this year’s “Light the Way!” campaign of the Cumberland Health Care Foundation resulted in $950 being achieved from donations during the day.
“It was a great fall afternoon for heading out for this musical show”, said Joe Gauthier, Managing Director of the Foundation, “the people were just so nice and filled with such energy.” Each year, the Cumberland Health Care Foundation’s “Light the Way!” campaign seeks to raise funds for new or replacement hospital equipment.
This year, the goal is to raise $55,000 to provide for three (3) new electrocardiogram machines (ECGs) at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre
“Being the child of a veteran myself, I’ve always been impressed by how such a group of dedicated individuals continue to care about fellow Canadians, “ said Managing Director Joe Gauthier, ”they tend to always put the other person first when lending a hand. ” This year’s “Light the Way!” event will be held on the evening of Wednesday, December 3rd starting at 5:30 with the lighting occurring at approximately 6pm.
The Cumberland Health Care Foundation is a registered Canadian not-for-profit charity dedicated to enhancing the provision of a high standard of health care within Cumberland County by raising funds and supporting new and improved services, programs, equipment and facilities.
