AMHERST,
NS (November 5, 2007) – Children from various elementary
schools in the County will be helping to “Light the
Way!!” this holiday season for hospital patients
at the regional acute care centre in Amherst. Children
in elementary grades will have an opportunity to complete
a coloring sheet with a space to send a “Holiday
Wish” to a patient who may be staying at the regional
hospital this holiday season.
“We’re extremely pleased that the schools and children have agreed
to send holiday wishes to those patients who may be spending the holidays in
hospital this year,” said David Wood, Chair of the Cumberland Health Care
Foundation, “we plan to present the holiday wishes to patients over the
holiday season beginning on Christmas Eve - it’s a nice touch of kindness
and good will towards someone who isn’t able to be home for the holidays”.
This year’s “Light the Way!” event will be held on the evening
of Wednesday, December 5th starting at 5:30 with the lighting occurring at approximately
6pm. Performances that evening will include the Oxford FunTones, the Amherst
Cadet corps band, and a recently activated hospital choir. Face painting, beverages
and treats will also be available for younger children.
“We’re hoping that people will keep an eye out for the bright yellow “Light
the Way!” envelopes”, said Managing Director Joe Gauthier, “there
should be one arriving to every household as part of the regular flyer delivery
in Cumberland and nearby Westmorland-area County in the coming weeks”.
These yellow envelopes contain an invitation to attend, information on “Light
the Way!” and how to sponsor an ornament in honor or in memory of someone.
Donations to “Light the Way!” can also be made at the Cumberland
Health Care Foundation office located at the Cumberland Regional Health Care
Centre, by calling 902 667-5400 ext. 6210 or by visiting the website www.chcfoundation.com.
Donations can also be made at the local Amherst branch of the Royal Bank or the

Proceeds this year will go towards providing five (5) five (5) new defibrillators
at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
