Local 5 fill 4 Galleries
AMHERST,
NS (October 18, 2007) – The Cumberland Health Care
Art Gallery located on the main floor of the Cumberland
Regional Health Care Centre is now exhibiting the works
of five (5) local area artists over the next several weeks.
Darlene Hotchkis, Glenn Adams, Darlene Strong, Brent Noiles,
and the works of Michael Gaul will be exhibited for sale
in the four (4) galleries located at the Cumberland Regional
Health Care Centre through late November.
The
collection of photography provided by established local
photographer Michael Gaul covers scenery from Peggy’s
Cove to Parrsboro, while new to the scene is the smaller
collection of works by Amherst native Brent Noiles. “For
me, being a photographer means looking at everything your
can capture”, said Noiles while delivering his works, “you’re
always trying to find the beauty of your subject, and with
luck, the perfect photograph”.
“It’s a very interesting collection of works” said Nini MacDonald
from the Foundation, “from beautiful framed watercolors, acrylics on
canvas, to the different photographic pieces. It would be easy to find something
that would appeal to someone for a birthday or if you wanted to do some early
shopping for the holidays”.
For
Darlene Hotchkis, a retired nurse from the local hospital,
this is one of her first public exhibits locally where
her works reflect her personal love of color, nature and
her deep awareness of God’s constant love. “I
really love the work created in this series of watercolor,
especially the one of the embattled ship in a storm,” said
Managing Director Joe Gauthier “it brings one to
feeling the excitement of the ocean, of how vulnerable
one can be while on it, and never really being sure of
what will happen next”.
As founder of the Cumberland County Black Artisans Network
and the Cumberland County School of the Arts Society, Darlene
Strong’s acrylics on canvas provide pleasing color
filled portraits illustrating an unabashed love of creation
while Sackville’s Glenn Adams work in digital art provides
a unique view of how the methods of creating art changes
with the times. A portion of each art sale is donated to
support the purchase of new and update medical equipment
through the Foundation’s Equipment Fund.
