Mrs.
Bickell's Day Care Centre Visit
AMHERST,
NS (June 21, 2007) – The children of Mrs. Bickell’s
Day Care Centre recently visited the Cumberland Regional
Health Care Centre for a tour of the building. During the
tour, the children had the opportunity of learning from
Dr. Susan Thompson about the diagnostic imaging equipment
(x-rays and ultrasound) and Dr. Brian Ferguson on the Emergency
Room. Escorted by Ann Keddy, Public Relations for the Cumberland
Health Authority and Joe Gauthier, Managing Director of
the Cumberland Health Care Foundation, the children and
parents also visited pediatrics and other areas to learn
about what happens in each area.
“We’re
very pleased that we had the opportunity to have this group
of children be able to visit us at the hospital and to
learn that it’s not a scary place to be”, said
Gauthier, “and letting children know early about
getting healthy and how hospitals help people get better
is important”.
Mrs. Bickell’s class were also the first official group
of the summer season to visit the Holly Spicer Healing Garden
which had just undergone a revamping and rejuvenation process
thanks to donations of plants and garden products from both
the Canadian Tire Store and Kent Building Supplies in Amherst.
The Cumberland Health Care Foundation is a registered Canadian
not-for-profit charity dedicated to enhancing the provision
of a high standard of health care within Cumberland County
by raising funds and supporting new and improved services,
programs, equipment and facilities. Its “Growing Care” campaign,
which is currently underway, seeks to raise $1.6 million
for a fully equipped third operating room and upgrading diagnostic
equipment at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
