The
Cumberland Health Care Foundation was pleased and honored to
receive two financial donations to its “Growing
Care” campaign. Waldale Manufacturing Ltd
graciously donated $5000 and the local Royal Bank (RBC) Amherst
branch made an additional donation of $1500.
The “Growing
Care” campaign currently underway
by the Cumberland Health Care Foundation is approaching
the $1 million dollar mark of its $1.6 million goal.
Dollars raised will support the construction and equipping
of the third operating suite at the Cumberland Regional
Health Care Centre, as well as the upgrading and purchasing
of diagnostic imaging equipment such as an Echo Ultrasound
machine, a new Routine Ultra Sound machine, and flat
panel technology for the current x-ray machine.

“It’s
all about the patients you can help”, states the
Foundation’s Managing Director, Joe Gauthier. “The
updated digital imaging equipment will benefit many different
types of patients - for instance the Echo Ultrasound machine
is used to investigate heart conditions such as a faulty
valve in the patient’s heart”. Gauthier
went on to explain that the Routine Ultrasound machine
will benefit patients undergoing investigation for abdominal
and breast cancer, examinations of extremities for blood
clots, thyroid conditions, and of course, pregnancy. Upgrading
of the digital imaging equipment will also help to improve
the patient experience as patients are able to have the
processes done quicker, helping to potentially reduce wait
times. With improved technology another benefit will
be the ability to spot bowel and stomach cancer earlier.
