Health care auxiliary honours first husband-wife team

UPPER NAPPAN - The Cumberland Health Care Auxiliary has honored its first ever husband and wife team for their volunteer efforts.

Auxiliary president Marilyn Conklin said during the group's regular monthly meeting held at the CUmberland Regional Health Care Centre cafeteria last week that the executive choose Gayle and Bob Janes as recipients of this year's Volunteer of the Year Award because of the countless hours they have devoted to the auxiliary throughout the years.

"Each year since 1987, people have been chosen to represent our auxiliary for the Volunteer of the Year Award presented by the Town of Amherst," Conklin explained. "Gayle is our present membership chairperson and buyer for our auxiliary gift shop and participated in our meetings, all of our projects and our big fund-raiser the Highland Fling."

Meanwhile, she said Bob continues to play an instrumental role at the Highland Fling each year by setting up the booths and ensuring that the curtains, dividers and electrical hook-ups are all in their proper place at the large annual community fund-raiser. But he supports the auxiliary in a variety of other ways as well.

"Bob also attends our meetings and is always willing to help in anyway he can," the auxiliary president praised. "This husband and wife team has spent many hours of dedication to our auxiliary and they serve to be honored."

Both say they are shocked yet honored to have been bestowed such an honor.

Miller, 1992; Madeline Ryan, 1993; Allie Daley, 1994; Marguerite Bishop, 1995; Vera Faulkner, 1996; Trudy Taylor, 1997; Shirley McCully, 1998; Greg Curry, 201; Marilyn Conklin, 2003; and Shirley McCully, 2004.

April is National Volunteer Month.
