Dr.
Barry MacLeod to receive Distinguished Service Award by Darrell Cole
UPPER NAPPAN - A longtime supporter of health care in Cumberland County has been
named the latest recipient of the Cumberland Health Care Foundation's Distinguished
Service Award.
The award will be presented to Dr. Barry MacLeod at the annual Foundation Dinner
to be held on Friday, April 15.
This award is presented annually at the dinner to a person or persons who have,
for a number of years, provided outstanding and unselfish services to the foundation
and to the health care community in Cumberland County and whose contribution
of time, effort, talent, resources and leadership has significantly enhanced
the success of the foundation's mission and goals.
MacLeod is well known Amherst dentist, who has served his community in a variety
of roles. He served on the former Northern Regional Health Board and represented
that group on the Health Care Foundation. His Contribution to the board are countless
- he participated in the Above & Beyond campaign and served on the executive
committee of the board for a number of years.
HIs term on the board was completed last June and since that time, he continues
to support foundation initiatives.
"Dr. Barry MacLeod is a true example of an excellent volunteer, which has
been demonstrated time and time again. He not only has served the health care
community well since coming to Amherst in 1972, but has provided wonderful leadership
to numerous other organizations in the county," foundation managing director
Jodi Swan said in a release.
The Seventh Annual Foundation Dinner will feature keynote speaker Dr. Ian Sutherland,
chief of staff for the Cumberland Health Authority. Dr. Sutherland will speak
about the Cumberland South Rural Practice Network, as well as the authority's
successes in physician recruitment.
Presentations will also be made by the foundation, as well as remarks from Cumberland
Health Authority. A live and silent auction in support of foundation initiatives
will round out the evening featuring Roger Bacon as auctioneer.
Past recipients of the Distinguished Service Award include: Bacon, Jean Miller,
Rosemary Donkin, Blake S.G. Daley, Stu and Cathy Pipe and Marsh Fox.
Tickets for the evening are $40 per person and can be purchased from foundation
