Amherst Daily News
UPPER NAPPAN (Staff) - The Cumberland Health Care Foundation
has another feather in its cap after becoming the newest
adherent of the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy's Code of
Ethical Fundraising and Financial Accountability.
At present there are 621 code adherents in Nova Scotia.
This Ethical Fundraising & Financial Accountability Code
has been developed by the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy,
in consultation with charity leaders throughout Canada. Its
primary purpose is to assure donors of the integrity and
accountability of charities that solicit and receive their
financial support.
"In adopting the code, we are showing our commitment and accountability
to ethical practice. The community will notice the code logo appearing on all
foundation related materials and in the near future the foundation will publish
an annual report to the community - a first for our organization", said
Jodi Swan, managing director.
Charities that adopt this code commit to fundraising practices
that respect donors' rights to truthful information and to
privacy. They also commit to manage responsibly the funds
that donors entrust to them, and to report their financial
affairs accurately and completely.
The code compliments the professional codes of ethics and
standards of practice to which many fundraiser's individually
adhere, such as those of the Association of Gift Planners
all of which the Cumberland Health Care Foundation are affiliated
with.
