DISTINGUISHED
SERVICE AWARD:
Health Care Foundation to honour longtime volunteer Marsh
Fox
by Darrell Cole, Amherst Daily News
AMHERST - A longtime community volunteer has been selected
as this year's recipient of the Cumberland Health Care Foundation's
distinguished service award.
The award will be formally presented at the foundation's
annual dinner on April 30 at the Wandlyn. The Cumberland
Health Care Foundation announced that the 2004 Distinguished
Service Award will be presented to Marsh Fox at the annual
Foundation Dinner to be held at the end of the month.
"Marsh has provided outstanding service to the foundation through numerous
volunteer roles. His enthusiasm and dedication toward the foundation is greatly
appreciated," foundation managing director Jodi Swan said Friday.
This award is presented annually at the foundation dinner
to a person or persons who have, for a number of years, provided
outstanding and unselfish services to the foundation and
to the health care community in Cumberland County and whose
contribution of time, effort, talent, resources and leadership
has significantly enhanced the success of the foundation's
mission and goals.
A retired insurance executive, Fox said he's honoured and
humbled to receive the award and follow in the footsteps
of other recipients. Last year the award was presented to
the husband and wife team of Stu and Cathy Pipe of Lorneville
for their years of service to the former Highland View Regional
Hospital and the new Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
Mr. Pipe served as chair of the Above &
Beyond Campaign after its first chair, Jerry Halle, left
to become mayor of Amherst. Other winners were: Roger Bacon,
Rosemary Donkin, Jean Miller and Blake Daley.
"It's an honour and I'm humbled," Fox said. " I was surprised
when I learned of it. When I went on the board the first big challenge was
raising the money for the hospital. I knew it would be difficult, but I also
knew it wouldn't be impossible."
Fox was an integral part of the first board that was charged
with developing the former Highland View Regional Hospital
Foundation. Fox served as secretary-treasurer to the board
and was also involved in the Above & Beyond campaign
which raised $7.5 million for the building of the new regional
hospital in Upper Nappan.
"Morris (Haugg) asked me if I'd be willing to jump aboard and the next
thing I knew I was secretary-treasurer and was involved in setting up a fiduciary
committee," Fox said. "I Keep involved in the foundation because
I believe it's a great organization and the hospital will always need money
over and above what it gets from the province. The foundation and the auxiliary
have done a great job enhancing the medical equipment and resources for the
county area."
Fox continues to serve the foundation by co-chairing the
annual golf tournament to be held on Friday, August 13, will
be the ninth annual tournament that he has been associated
with. Created to raise money for the Above & Beyond Campaign,
the Highland Classic has continued to be a major fundraiser
for the foundation, contributing more than $186,000 over
eight years.
The foundation dinner, which is one of three major fundraisers
organization each year, will feature keynote speaker Dr.
Ronal Colman, presentations by the foundation, remarks from
Cumberland Health Authority and a live silent auction in
support of foundation initiatives with former premier Roger
Bacon serving as auctioneer.
Tickets for the evening are $40 per person and can be purchased
from board members or at the foundation office. For more
information contact the Foundation Office at 667-5400 ext.621.
