CHCA
donates $5,000 to Light the Way

UPPER NAPPAN - President Marilyn Conklin presided over
the March 11th meeting of the CHCA which was held at 7:30
pm in the Conference Room of the Cumberland Health Care Centre,
Nappan.
There were 24 members present. The Auxiliary Prayer was repeated
and the minutes of the Nov.13th, Sec. 11th, February 12th
were approved as read and as well as the January 30th Executive
meeting.
President Marilyn thanked everyone who helped make our Valentine
Social a success and to everyone who got their annual reports
in on time. Treasurer, Madeline Ryan gave the financial report.
The Auxiliary donated $5,000.00 to the Foundation's Light
The Way Campaign and a letter of thanks was received from
them. The Foundation's dinner will be Friday April 30th,
2004 at the Wandlyn Inn. There will be live and silent auctions
and other fundraising projects. The cost for the dinner is
$40.00 per person.
Membership Chair, Gwen Briand reported out membership is
100, consisting of 6 males, 94 females, 27 Life Members and
85 Charter members.
Gayle Janes presented the Treats & Treasures Gift Shoppe
report for Viki Daley. Some of the highlights were: Gayle
Janes, Marguerite Bishop and Vicki attended the Toronto Gift
Show in January and Gayle, Marguerite and Linda Long attended
the gift show in Moncton in February; there will be another
Reader's Digest Book Fair March 22-23.
Thanks to volunteers and friends of the Auxiliary who have
donated beautiful handcrafted items and thanks to all volunteers
who make this a successful fundraiser for our hospital.
Gayle also presented the report on the Crema Coffee Shop
for Vicki with highlights as follows: thanks to the Springhill
Institution for the donation of a beautiful hutch; monthly
prizes are drawn from full coffee cards which are punched
when purchasing hot drinks; the food inspector gave the shop
a 5 out of 5 rating; plans are underway to attend the 2004
food show in Halifax; gift coupons for $1.00 and $2.00 value
can be purchased thanks to the staff and volunteers who are
doing a great job and also thanks to the hospital family
who support us.
Gayle stated that because of Vicki's unparalleled dedication
and ability to provide support to her Committee, all members
of that Committee continue to participate in their original
capacity an to enjoy working together in spite of the many
volunteer hours involved. (Thoughtful words for a very special
person.)
Shirley McCully, Treasurer, Treats and Treasures Gift Shop
gave her report as well as Heather LeMoine, Treasurer of
Crema Coffee Shop. Two Cheques were presented to President
Marilyn Conklin as follows: $20,000.00 from the revenues
of the Crema Coffee Shop and $15,000.00 from Treats and Treasures
Gift Shoppe. President Marilyn expressed thanks on behalf
of the Auxiliary and congratulated the staff and volunteers
of these two shops for their hard work. A photographer from
Amherst Daily News was on hand to capture the event.
There will be an Education Seminar in Truro on April 15th,
10am - 3pm at the Howard Johnson Motel. Cost is $20.00 per
member. Please contact Marilyn if you would like to attend.
There will be a Highland Fling meeting on April 1st, 7pm
at the hospital. We ask as many as possible to attend. Our
next regular meeting is April 8th.
The annual meeting followed the March meeting. A minute of
silence followed by a prayer was observed in memory of Linda
Barteaux who died January 23, 2003 and Mae Welch who died
July 25, 2003.
All reports were adopted as written. Rakesh Minocha, Vice
President Operations with the Cumberland Health Authority
thanked the Auxiliary for the fantastic management and operation
of the Coffee and Gift Shops and also thanked the Auxiliary
members for the volunteer work they carry out on behalf of
the hospital.
We are saddened to learn that Dianne Duvar's father Herb
Phillips, passed away; his funeral was held on Saturday at
Trinity-St. Stephen's United Church.
