Gift Leaves A Lasting Legacy For Community Health
The Late Dorthy M. Purdy of Amherst has left a lasting
legacy for the health of Cumberland County residents. Ms.
Purdy supported the Above & Beyond campaign and continued
to make donation toward equipment purchases for the health
care facility; therefore it is not surprising that in making
her estate plan she included the Cumberland Health Care Foundation
as a recipient of her estate. The foundation received $100,000
to be divided equally between the equipment fund and endowment
fund.
An endowment fund allows for the gift to be invested, with
the interest earned being used to forward the mission of
the foundation, which is "to enhance the ability to
provide a high standard of health care to all residents of
Cumberland County by raising funds and supporting new and
improved services, programs, equipment and facilities".
At present the Cumberland Health Care Foundation endowment
fund holds $862,000. These funds are managed wisely, with
a percentage of the investment income reinvested so as to
continue the growth of the fund.
The Cumberland Health Care Foundation has a bright future
in supporting various needs at the Cumberland Regional Health
Care Centre. One way we address the future, is through our
endowment program. By building these funds, we increase the
financial stability of the Cumberland Health Care Foundation
and provide a stream of income that we can depend on.
"Ms. Purdy's bequest to the Cumberland Health Care Foundation will ensure
that not only present equipment needs can be met, but that long term support
will be provided through the portion of funds directed to the endowment",
stated Jodi Swan, managing director.
"Having operated a local business, Ms. Purdy had direct
contact with a number of community members. Her most generous
gift will ensure that the health care of Cumberland County
residents will continue to be enhanced." said Swan.
