AMHERST - Preparations are in high gear for the Eigth
Annual Highland Classic Golf Tournament in support of the
Cumberland Health Care FOundation on Friday, Aug.15.
Since its inception in 1996, to raise funds for the Above &
Beyond Campaign, the golf tournament has raised more than
$150,000 to assist in the foundation's mission of enhancing
the ability to provide a high standard of health care to
all residents of Cumberland County through new and improved
services, programs, equipment and facilities.
While this is the first classic since the new regional hospital
opened in Upper Nappan last October, the planning committee,
co-chaired by Marsh Fox and Dwight Jones, feel it's important
to keep the Highland Classic name. "The golf tournament
was started as a fund-raising initiative to assist in raising
the needed funds for a new health-care facility," Jones
said. "The former Highland View Regional Hospital and
foundation were behind the name of the tournament. With the
new centre open, the foundation is raising funds to forward
its mission."
The tournament promises to be a fun-filled day with participants
enjoying time on the links and in fellowship. Former MLA
and premier Roger Bacon will serve as auctioneer for the
auction segment of the event. There will be a pre-event luncheon
at the club house, as well as a dinner after the 18-hole
event.
As in the past, there have been two hole-in-one winners and
this year will be no different with Amherst Chrysler Dodge
Jeep offering a 2003 Sebring and a 2003 Grand Am SE being
offered by Bordertown Pontiac Buick GMC (1991) Ltd. There
are also two $25,000 prizes provided by Barnes Insurance
and RBC Royal Bank.
This year's tournament is open to 36 teams comprised of various
families, corporations and individual golfers. Anyone interested
in participating is encouraged to contact the foundation
office as soon as possible, as the tourney filling up quickly.
For further information, contact the foundation office at
667-5400 ext. 6210, by visiting the web site at www.chcfoundation.com/highland_classic.html,
or by stopping by the foundation office at the Cumberland
Regional Health Care Centre.
