AMHERST
(Staff) - A pair of local groups were nominated for the 2003
Atlantic Region Awards for Philanthropy recently presented
at the Society of Fund Raising Executives conference in Halifax.
This year, the Cumberland Health Care Foundation nominated Poly Cello as Outstanding
Corporate Philanthropist and the Amherst Lions Club as Outstanding Philanthropic
Group.
Poly Cello has continued to offer support to the foundation, in addition to their
generous gift toward the Above & Beyond Campaign.
In 2002, Poly Cello received the gleaming star for the Light the Way Campaign,
representing the largest single donation made to the Light the Way campaign to
date.
Their continued support allows the foundation to embrace its mission which is "to
enhance the ability to provide a high standard of health care to all residents
of Cumberland County by raising funds for new and improved services, programs,
equipment and facilities."
"Poly Cello is a wonderful example of corporate generosity. Not only do
the owners and the administration participate in philanthropic endeavors, but
also encourage their staff to contribute to the betterment of their community",
stated Jodi Swan, managing director.
The Amherst Lions Club also continues to support the foundation through a variety
of means. The group made a significant contribution toward the Above & Beyond
Campaign, and in partnering with the Amherst Lioness Club also furnished a Palliative
Care room at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
"The Lions Club is a shining example of community philanthropy. Not only
do they offer their support to the Cumberland Health Care Foundation, but numerous
other community agencies and programs", said Swan.
Representatives from Poly Cell and the Amherst Lions Club attended the Philanthropy
Awards Dinner in Halifax on April 24 with members from the foundation board.
Each nominee was presented with a plaque highlighting their contributions to
philanthropy. Although the nominees were not selected as this year's winner in
each of their respective categories, their efforts did not go unnoticed or unappreciated.
The Society of Fund Raising Executives (SFRE) recognizes there are many individuals,
small businesses, corporations and groups throughout Atlantic Canada who make
outstanding contributions to philanthropy through their gifts of time and financial
support. The Atlantic Region Awards for Philanthropy were created in 1986 to
acknowledge these outstanding contributions.
