Stu, Cathy Pipe Selected For Health-Care Award
by Darrell Cole
AMHERST - The husband and wife team of Stu and Cathy Pipe
have been selected as this year's recipients of the Cumberland
Health Care Foundation's Distinguished Service Award.
The award is presented annually to a person or group of people who have, for
a number of years, provided outstanding and unselfish services to the hospital
foundation and to the health care community in Cumberland County, and whose contribution
of time, effort, talent, resources and leadership has significantly enhanced
the success of the foundation's missions and goals.
The award will be presented during the Fifth Annual Foundation Dinner on Friday
at the Wandlyn Inn in West Amherst. "We're very pleased to be recognized
and would like to thank the foundation for this honour," Stu Pipe said last
night. "Instead of the foundation thanking us we should be thanking the
foundation for giving us the opportunity to work on such a successful campaign.
It was indeed an honour to work with such a committed and dedicated group of
people who were 100 per cent committed and gave 110 per cent all the time."
The Pipes were an integral part of the foundation board and the Above & Beyond
Campaign that raised $7.5 million toward the construction of the Cumberland Regional
Health Care Centre. Stu served as vice-chair, and took over as chair in 1997
when Jerry Hallee left his position to become mayor of Amherst.
Cathy dedicated herself to the public relations functions associated with the
campaign, serving as public relations chair for the extent of the campaign between
1993-1998. During the campaign, she participated in the caravan tour across Cumberland
County that took the campaign to the communities throughout the region and helped
raise money in the early days of the fund-raising effort.
Besides their work with the Above & Beyond Campaign, the Pipes have also
been generous sponsors to the work of the foundation itself.
"The Pipes are a wonderful example of individuals who, through
their actions and donations, illustrate involvement and concern
for the delivery of health care in Cumberland County," foundation
dinner chair Morris Haugg said.
Previous winners of the award include: Roger Bacon, Blake Daley, Rosemary Donkin
and Jean Miller.
Besides the presentation of the Distinguished Service Award, the evening will
feature keynote speaker Dr. Janice Keefe, presentations by the foundation, remarks
from Cumberland Health Authority CEO Bruce Quigley, a live and silent auction
in support of foundation initiatives with Roger BAcon serving as auctioneer,
as well as a dance to end the evening.
Tickets for the evening are $40 per person and can be purchased from foundation
board members or at the foundation office. For more information, contact the
foundation office at 667-5400, ext. 6210.
