Release - November 12, 2002 The Future of Highland View Regional Hospital
The future of the Highland View Regional Hospital premises on East Pleasant Street
is not up in the air. There is a firm plan in place.
According to a joint agreement made some time ago between the Municipality of
Cumberland County, the Town of Amherst, the former Regional Health Board and
the Cumberland Health Care Foundation (formerly Highland View Regional Hospital
Foundation), the existing hospital facility will be demolished and the site re-mediated
to residential standards of the Department of Environment and Labour. Ownership
of the site will then be transferred to the Cumberland Health care Foundation,
which is charged with the responsibility and challenge to develop the property
to its best potential. The net proceeds of such development will be used exclusively
to the benefit of the new Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
The Cumberland Health Care Foundation is pleased to be part of this agreement.
It will see additional funds directed towards the highest standard of health
care for the residents of Cumberland County.
