Volunteer of the Year Award
“This award, in the form of a plaque, will be presented annually at the Foundation Dinner Event, to a current active volunteer of the Cumberland Health Care Foundation, who has provided outstanding and unselfish volunteer service to the Foundation and who may have also provided such volunteer service to the other agencies which are in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of the Cumberland Health Care Foundation.”
Michael Hunter awarded the 2011 Volunteer of the Year Award
Each year the Foundation seeks to recognize an outstanding community volunteer both for the Foundation, for healthcare and for the community. This award, in the form of a plaque, is presented to a current active volunteer of the Cumberland Health Care Foundation, who has provided outstanding and unselfish volunteer service to the Foundation and who may have also provided such volunteer service to the other agencies which are in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of the Cumberland Health Care Foundation.”
(Foundation Chair, Gwen Kerr presents Michael Hunter the annual Volunteer of the Year Award as his wife Angela looks on).
The 2011 recipient has grown up in the Amherst area, gone away to school, come back to work, to marry, to have children, and to commit himself to the betterment of others both in healthcare and through healthy active living.
A former member of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, he stepped down after 10 years of service, but continued to volunteer as one of our financial stewards through active involvement with our Finance Committee.
As a chartered accountant, he has given over 300 hours of documented service with the foundation. He has served as Board treasurer for 10 years, the finance committee for 11 years, and assisted with our growing care capital campaign and actually even volunteered for the annual dinner committee at one time.
Although his involvement with us has not been as high a profile as that as his recent involvement with the Amherst Ramblers, his sense of team play, integrity, and ethics has been, and continues to be invaluable for the Foundation.
He has been and is a community leader with the junior achievers titans program, the Kent Novice Ramblers, the Cumberland County Minor Hockey Association, and the Amherst Rotary club.
