Classic Trophy
now on display at Regional Hospital
AMHERST, NS (August 17, 2007) – The sunshine, warm breeze, friendliness
and the air of camaraderie amongst players and volunteers highlighted a day when
sports enthusiasts supported a cause with a direct benefit for local county residents.
The recent 12th Annual Highland Classic Charity Golf Tournament raised approximately
$30,000 on August 10th at the Amherst Golf Club to support the programs and services
of the Cumberland Health Care Foundation.
“You can’t ignore the fact that donations made to any local hospital
foundation or auxiliary brings a positive impact for hospital patients now and
in the future,” stated Dave Wood, CHCF Chair, “it’s one of
those rare things today when you give money that you don’t have to wonder
how much of it will be coming back to your own community in direct service -
patients and their families see the benefits everyday from donated dollars at
local hospitals across this County.”
The Highland Cup was won by a team from Hoffman La Roche who shot a 17 under
par at the event and is now on display at the Cumberland Regional Health Care
Centre along with team photos.
Although there were no lucky winners of the four hole-in-one holes where a vehicle
could have been won, the following teams and individuals took the following categories.
• Closest to the pin on hole #9 (men) – Bruce Hebert
• Closest to the pin on hole #15 (men) – Dr. Dave Saunders
• Longest Drive on hole #8 (ladies) – Dana Carr
• Longest Drive on hole #11 (ladies) – Eva Kreft
• Longest Drive on hole #2 (men) – Simon Roberts
• Longest Drive on hole #11 (men) – Andy Marr
• Team Putting Contest – Team “Radar”
• Highland Classic Draw Winners – Ann Flewelling, Ed Canton, Tony
Wood, Robbie Janes, Dick VanSnick
“We would also like to thank all the volunteers at this event, the sponsors,
and donors for helping us make a difference and in growing care in our community”,
finished Wood, “it’s nice to see people putting aside a day to make
a difference in the life of others”.
The 2008 Highland Classic has been scheduled for Friday, August 8th at the Amherst
Golf Club with the Foundation already receiving requests for holding team spots
for the event.
The Cumberland Health Care Foundation is a registered Canadian not-for-profit
charity dedicated to enhancing the provision of a high standard of health care
within Cumberland County by raising funds and supporting new and improved services,
