THE
FOUNDATION’S MISSION

equipment and facilities.
LOCAL LAWYER HONOURED
AMHERST, NS – At the 9th Annual Foundation dinner of
the Cumberland Health Care Foundation, local lawyer, Morris
J. Haugg was honored at the event with the presentation of
the Distinguished Service Award.
The award is presently annually by the Foundation to an individual
from the County who has contributed continuously to the enhancement
of improved healthcare and medical services for all residents.
Haugg was involved in the early movement to create the Cumberland
Health Care Foundation (formerly the Highland View Hospital
Foundation), worked tireless hours to ensure funding for
the new regional hospital and continued to support the other
community organizations he was involved in.
Haugg
is well know in the county for his work with the Amherst
YMCA, the Rotary Club of Amherst, the Chamber of Commerce,
the Amherst Township Historical Society, Blueberry Harvest
Festival, Northport Home and School Association, the Atlantic
Provinces Resource Centre for the Hearing Impaired, the
Tidnish Cross Roads Community Association, the Canadian
Cancer Society, and the Cumberland Forest Advisory Council
amongst many others.
David Wood, Vice Chair of the Cumberland Health Care Foundation
paid tribute to Haugg during the plaque presentation by presenting
the ward to Haugg (left) and by stating “distinguished
service can only be delivered by someone with energy, the
determination, the personal dedication of time and the ability
to make a difference – whether knowingly or unknowingly
in the lives of others”. He continued, “Morris
has without fail, distinguished himself to the benefit of
us all”.
Haugg will join the ranks of other self-less volunteers to
the Cumberland Health Care system such as Hon. Roger Bacon,
Stu and Cathy Pipe, the Cumberland Health Care Auxiliary,
Marsh Fox, and Blake Daily.
The Cumberland Health Care Foundation is a registered Canadian
not-for-profit charity dedicated to enhancing the provision
of a high standard of health care within Cumberland County
by raising funds and supporting new and improved services,
programs, equipment and facilities. Its “Growing Care” campaign,
which is currently underway, seeks to raise $1.6 million
for a fully equipped third operating room and upgrading diagnostic
equipment at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
